Republican Ben Loyola Calls on Glenn Nye to join him in opposition to War Tax

In a show of bipartisanship, Republican Ben Loyola, voiced his opposition to a War Tax proposal supported by Democratic Congressional leaders and called on current Congressman Glenn Nye to join him in opposition to it.

“The Congressman has sent mailpieces throughout the district touting his fiscal conservatism. I hope he’ll join me in opposing a job-killing tax increase in the middle of a recession,” said Loyola, Congressional candidate for the 2nd District in Virginia.

“The only people who’ve paid any price for our military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan are our military families,” three top House Democrats, led by Appropriations Committee Chairman David R. Obey of Wisconsin, said in announcing their proposal last month. “We believe that if this war is to be fought, it’s only fair that everyone share the burden.”

Loyola disagrees. “Washington, DC needs to learn that the problem is high spending on the wrong priorities, not a lack of money taken from families to fund government. Odd that some in Congress are willing to run up debt for a health care takeover, but national security isn’t high enough a priority for them.”

House Democrats’ Share the Sacrifice Act of 2010 would require the president to set a surtax level so that it fully pays for the previous year’s war costs.

“It’s exactly the wrong way to conduct tax policy,” argued Loyola. “I hope my opponent will join me in opposing it.”

Ben Loyola is a candidate for the Republican nomination in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. He’s a 25-year resident of Virginia Beach, 30-year Navy combat veteran, successful businessman, and Conservative Republican.
